On September 25, 2025, the “Building Bridges” project celebrated its first official gathering, bringing together students and educators from three schools—Základná škola pri Podlužianke and Základná škola Gbelce in Slovakia, and Dunabogdányi Általános Iskola és Alapfokú Művészeti Iskola in Hungary. Held in the elegant Grand Hotel Esztergom in the historic town of Ostrihom, the event marked a vibrant beginning to a cross-border educational collaboration.
The theme of the day centered on historical figures from the shared Slovak-Hungarian region. Students prepared thoughtful presentations, not only highlighting the achievements of these personalities but also reflecting on how their lives can inspire young people today. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity, creativity, and a sense of connection.
Two distinguished guests enriched the program with their insights. Juraj Himler, a lifelong historian and educator, delivered a captivating lecture on notable figures from the region’s past, weaving stories that sparked interest and pride. Gábor Mitták, a university student and ambassador for cross-border cooperation at the European Commission, shared his personal journey and spoke about the individuals who have shaped his path.
To deepen the spirit of collaboration, students were challenged to design an imaginary bridge with superpowers—symbolizing unity, creativity, and hope. Working in mixed teams and communicating in English, they built not only bridges on paper but friendships across borders.
“Building Bridges” is more than a project name—it’s a living metaphor for the connections being formed between young minds, cultures, and communities. As the initiative continues, it promises to strengthen ties and foster mutual understanding in the heart of Central Europe.
